In February 2021, during the University of Alberta's Students Union elections, The Gateway ran a campaign that encouraged students to vote in favour of renewing their DFU (Dedicated Fee Unit), which is where The Gateway sourced most of their income. The campaign focused on the value students receive from contributing to The Gateway — amplifying student voices & perspectives, award-winning journalism, and news reporting.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this campaign was designed to be held online through social media platforms, such as Instagram & Facebook.
